Uh HA!

Do you see that?

Look up

No, not at YOUR ceiling, at the top of the post here. See that? That wee banner? Yup. It's blog week prep thanks to the delightful Eskimimi. Blog week looks cute and fun and I'm going to give it a whirl. Largely because I've not been writing anything about my knitting. More about the places I have been knitting. Sorry about that. So I promise a week of knitting talk. Unashamedly geeky. I promise.

Today however? I need to address Moon Pies. I received this package from my friend, Amber,  full of sugary goodness. It all started after a conversation when I asked 'What's a moon pie?' and there was this stunned silence. Then later on I said 'What's peppermint bark?' Again, I was pitied.

So Amber sent me a box load. They're um, interesting. One thing I would NOT recommend. Is turning them over to read the ingredients to work out what they are. Really. Don't.

New Starts

I've been this flurry of knitting. I finished another pair of Toastys and cranked right on to make a matching hat. The pattern is by the lovely Jared Flood who I swear is one of the best pattern writers out there. His style is not too chatty but it's informative and you get what you need in order to best execute the pattern.

Like jogless stripes
- Check those bad boys out!

It was so much simpler than any instructions I'd read before. You basically work your new round of colour as normal (catching the old yarn with the working yarn to prevent holes). When you are ready to start the second round you take your right hands needle and lift a loop from the old round and old colour below. You then knit this as if K2tog with what would have been the next stitch. The pattern is Turn a Square and it's so fast and fun. I love these intuitive patterns and once again the Malabrigo was like knitting with buttered kittens. YUM

I did finish something else but again I'm wondering into spoiler territory for friends who read this blog so as soon as they know, you'll know. The general theme has been very unselfish though hasn't it? I mean, 3 FOs and none are for me.
See this moutain of new possibilities? Only one is for me: the ongoing Cedar Leaf Shawlette (Alana we love you!). I've got milestone birthdays and pregnancies coming out of my ears! I'm normally more selfish but I've been so grateful to friends and family this last year I feel I just have to give something super special and generous.

The beady eyed amongst you undoubtedly noticed this little bag. Isn't that fabric adorable? It's made by a girl from my knit group from the Lollipop Stop. Go check her out, just save me a robot tote ok? There's always room for more robots....

First thought

It’s later in the morning than I would normally be on the train. The reason is, I’m barely awake today and the world feels decidedly less playful when I’m exhausted. Without a seat, I opted to hunker down by the door and work on my nearly complete socks with a podcast trying to remind me of the world outside my sleepy fog. I’m coping, thank you.
As we approach Waterloo the usual commuter panic kicks in and people grab for bags, coats and umbrellas from about Vauxhall. This never fails to amuse me, I mean, the train is still moving?? So I knit on and watch cautiously out of the corner of my eye; a feat of wonder quite frankly considering I can barely blink in my sleepiness.
Just then the nearest commuter points at me dramatically and says with great pomp ‘Look! I can’t go any further, there’s a girl........... KNITTING!!!!!!!’ His colleagues lean round him curiously and I smirk as a ripple moves through the little crowd of lemmings: ‘A girl? Knitting’, ‘No?’, ‘What’s she knitting?’ ‘Looks like SOCKS’, ‘On a train?’ ‘No?’ ‘Do you think they’re for her war bound husband?’
‘God, it’s like 1834 in here.’
......................

Now that one really threw me. 1834? That’s kind of...... specific? And the blasphemy in front of it? I think God has a lot more to deal with than a man not coping with a girl knitting surely? I have pondered this ever since. I can only assume these people don’t travel often as I have seen many, many odder things than a girl knitting. A man with a metal prism over his head to stop thoughts escaping being my favourite.
