I don't think you should start to learn to crochet using stretchy sock yarn. You say that your beginning knitting was tight. So you will probably pull too much when learning to crochet. Your loops will get impossibly small and unmanageable.
I suggest a nice thick, not too soft yarn to practice with. It won't be wasted. You can frog it!
Lovely episode - I listened to it on my commute back home tonight and despite my exhaustion you got me actually giggling with the Lost and Found story.
I'm so glad you treated yourself to a day off - sounds like just what the doctor would have ordered :)
Hello! I have been listening awhile now and just wanted to write and tell you how uplifting I always find your podcasts. You mentioned going through a difficult patch, and I've recently been there too. But it was wonderful to hear such positive words and such wonderful joy as you spoke about your returned projects, ukelele and taking a day to yourself. Yay! I am taking an evening for myself as I listen, so I can quite relate. :)
Also, just wanted to let you know, there is an absolutely FABULOUS food blogger based in the US Northwest - Seattle, specifically. Knowing of your interest and love for the region and this topic, I wanted to make sure you knew about Jess Thompson and her blog, Hogwash. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Playful, for this evening at least,

I agree, sponge is a great word. My current favorite is plump.
